Project THOR refers to the development of high-performance, high-mobility all-wheel-drive vehicles which are suitable for deployment and utilization in extremely tough conditions, such as emergency & rescue activities during rally raid competitions, and for testing of equipment and solutions in very diverse operating conditions, from the heat of the Daytona race track to the bitter cold of the Arctic. Developed in co-operation with Fornasari Cars Inc. of Vicenza, Italy, THOR-class vehicles have an APX4 aeronautical-grade stainless steel tubular chassis, a 4-layer Kevlar coachwork, a top speed of approximately 280 km/hr, a ground clearance of 35 cm, and a water fording capability of 90 cm, and they can be deployed from a C130 aircraft using LAPES (Low Altitude Parachute Extraction System).
